Nathan Xu
Musician

Nathan Xu, a 13 year old boy, is a second year student at UTS who began his musical journey at the young age of four. Studying piano with Mary Wang, he quickly developed skills and a passion for music. He progressed and finished his level 8 piano exam in 4 years. Later on, he started to take piano lessons with Vladimir Niurenberg, a great pianist that drastically improved his performing skills onstage and his understanding of music. He is currently RCM piano ARCT level.
Other than piano, he started learning violin as his second instrument in 2019. He was curious to try different instruments, and based on his solid music foundation and talent, he achieved RCM violin level ARCT within 6 years. He mostly played as a soloist, and occasionally he was part of a chamber ensemble or an orchestra. In the summer of 2023 and 2024, he attended Vancouver Island Music Academy. Now, he is part of UTS’s Junior Strings and Chamber Strings.
For both piano and violin, Nathan participated and won awards in the Unionville Music Competition, the Toronto Kiwanis Music Competition, the Canadian Music Competition, the Villahermosa International Music Festival, the Virtuoso International Music Awards, and the Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association provincials.
Aside from music, Nathan enjoys sports like swimming, badminton, and volleyball. During his spare time, Nathan likes writing stories, composing his own music, playing video games, going on vacation with his family, and much more (that he can’t even name)!
