Justin Chen

Justin Chen, a 14-year-old Canadian pianist, violinist, violist, and composer, is currently a fourth-year student at the RCM Taylor Academy and a ninth-grade student at the University of Toronto Schools (UTS). He currently studies piano under professor Li Wang and has performed for renowned artists such as Stewart Goodyear, James Anagnoson, and Anton Nel. By age 11, Justin had completed his piano ARCT diploma, and by 13, his LRCM diploma. In June 2023, he won first place in the Canadian Music Competition (CMC) in the piano category for age 12.

 

He began to play the piano at age 6 and he made his Carnegie Hall debut 2 years later, at age 8.​ He performed his own composition for the Royal Princess Her Imperial Highness at age 9. He became a 2023 OYMI Music Festival Contract Award winner and premiered his original piano concerto with the OYMCO in June 2024. As a first-place winner in the Global Philharmonic 2024 Music Competition, Justin was invited to perform at the prestigious Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles in August 2024.

In addition to piano, he enjoys playing violin and viola in his school orchestras. He received the John & Margaret Withrow Music Scholarship for Strings in 2024 at UTS. Other than music, Justin enjoys badminton, golf, Rubik's cubes, science and coding.

Christie Cheung

Christie Cheung is a 15 year old violinist who is studying at the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where she is under the tutelage of Dr. Conrad Chow. Christie has had the opportunity to perform for renowned violinists such as Maxim Vengerov, Augustin Hadelich, Ida Kavafian, and James Ehnes. 

 

Christie was the 1st place winner of the Oakville Chamber Orchestra (OCO) Concerto Competition, and she performed the Saint-Saëns Violin Concerto No. 3 with OCO during the 2024-2025 season. She won the 2023 Concerto Competition at the Phil and Eli Taylor Academy, performing as a soloist. Additionally, Christie performed as a soloist with the Burlington New Millennium Orchestra and the Glenn Gould Chamber Orchestra. She has also been featured as one of the outstanding young artists during the 2023 RCM Violin Symposium. 

 

In the summer of 2023, Christie attended the Heifetz International Institute Program, and this summer, she is attending the Young Artist Institute at Chamber Music Northwest and Morningside Music Bridge. 

 

Among her accomplishments are winning the 1st Prize in the Canimex Canadian Music Competition, receiving the Grand Trophy Award in the CCC Toronto International Music Festival, being selected as a finalist in the Ysaye International Music Competition in Belgium, and winning the 1st Prize in the Little Mozart International Competition in New York. She made her debut at the iconic Carnegie Hall at just nine years old.

In 2023, Christie received the John and Margaret Withrow Music Scholarship at the Unviersity of Toronto Schools. 

Andrew Bao

Xian (Andrew) Bao was born in 2011. He started playing piano from age four. In 2020,
Andrew was accepted into the Taylor Academy of RCM and studies under the studio of
Mr. Li Wang since then. He is also a student of the University of Toronto Schools (UTS).


Andrew has participated in a variety of piano competitions and has achieved excellent
results including, Winner of the 2024 Taylor Academy Concerto Competition; 1st place in
Category of Piano-11 yrs in the 2023 Canadian Music Competition; 2nd Place in Piano-
10 yrs in 2022 CMC; Favorite in 7-10 yrs in 2020 CMC (Non Competitive Edition), Gold
Award at 2020 Steinway and Sons’ Piano Competition, 1st place and the Junior Pianist Contract Award at 7th GOCAA International Piano Competition & so on.


Andrew is a full-scholarship recipient at Taylor in the past three school years. He also
received the John and Margaret Withrow Music Scholarship at the University of Toronto
Schools in October 2024.


Outside of piano, Andrew plays violin, enjoys reading and playing chess.

Eason Hu

Eason Hu, twelve-year-old, started playing piano at the age of six under Coral Solomon-Berkovsky and started piano lessons with Dr. Michael Berkovsky at age of nine. By the age of ten, Eason was accepted into The Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists at The Royal Conservatory. He earned the First Place Award for Piano Concerto at OMFA Provincial Finals 2023 and 2024. He also received the Chopin Trophy at CCC Toronto International Music Festival 2022. He is one of the finalists in the junior division of 6th Canadian Chopin Piano Competition in 2025. He was awarded first prize in numerous local competitions.

 

In addition to his achievements on the piano, Eason started learning violin at the age of seven. He was the second-place winner of Canadian Music Competition in both 2022 and 2023 and Grand Prize Winner for strings at CCC. In 2024, Eason began studying violin with Marie Bérard and Jonathan Crow at The Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy. He has also been accepted as a violinist in the Toronto Youth Symphony Orchestra for the 2024/25 season.

Winnie Geng

An energetic and friendly 11-year-old girl, Winnie (Weitong) Geng brings her vibrant personality into everything she does.  She started to play the piano at age 5 in Vancouver. Currently she studies under professor Langning Liu at the Royal Conservatory’s Phil and Eli Taylor Academy in the Junior Piano Program. Winnie has participated in various music festivals, showcasing her commitment and dedication. Most recently,

she received 1st prize in the Taylor Academy  Concerto Competition and

Burlington New Millennium Orchestra Amazing Talent Competition. Additionally, she also was awarded in The Sixth Canadian Chopin Piano Competition and Kaufman Music Center International Youth Piano Competition.

 

Winnie is very passionate about charitable activities and has participated in numerous charity concerts, raising funds for Vancouver Children’s Hospital and children with autism. Through her actions, she is helping other children grow up healthy.

 

In addition to playing the piano, Winnie enjoys expressing her creativity through drawing, capturing the world around her with imagination and colour.  Outside of her artistic pursuits, she is an active tennis player, finding balance between the focus required in both sports and the arts. A curious and avid reader, she often gets lost in books, always eager to explore many subjects and ideas.
